Overview

Dedicated Station Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Industrial Fire & Rescue Station.  The Fire & Rescue Station Manager is responsible for managing staff, maintaining firefighting equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.  Candidate must have previous experience in firefighting and a strong understanding of emergency response procedures.  Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills are also vital for this role.

Responsibilities

Emergent Fire Operations:

Station Manager shall:

  • Ensure team members are effective, safe and efficient during fire ground operations in accordance with department training and standard operating guidelines throughout their career.
  • Ensure that themselves and team members wear safety equipment issued such as SCBA, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), (turn out gear and all associated items) when applicable according to department guidelines.
  • Be capable of performing independent tasks, when necessary, within the scope of qualifications and training.

Emergent EMS Operations:

Station Manager shall:

  • Lead assigned paramedics in their effective and safe articulation of duties.
  • Demonstrate patient assessment and treatment skills, when necessary, to the standard of care accepted in the state of Mississippi.
  • Wear appropriate safety and PPE per department and regional guidelines.
  • Be capable of driving/operating fire & rescue vehicles following guidelines established by State Law, policy and the department.
  • Lead paramedics in their exercising of care, accuracy and completeness in documenting patient care reports and any other associated items.

Non-Emergent Operations
Station Manager shall:

  • Oversee daily station operations, Scheduling, pay documentation, and maintenance activities
  • Coordinate and supervise activities of firefighters, ensuring they are properly certified, trained, and equipped
  • Develop and implement fire prevention and safety procedures
  • Conduct regular inspections and drills to ensure readiness for emergency situations
  • Manage and track budgets, resources, and equipment
  • Prepare reports on fire incidents
  • Recruit, hire, and train new firefighters & Paramedics
  • Respond to emergency calls and lead firefighting operations as needed
  • Collaborate with other emergency services and public safety organizations
  • Become familiar with and conduct quarterly meetings with GTR industrial park safety coordinators from the various business tenants, including facilities visits
  • Conduct weekly performance conversations with subordinates, providing feedback, and handling disciplinary issues
  • Manage the annual fire station operational budget of roughly $1.4 Million dollars
  • Coordinate training programs for fire station staff
  • Report and document station activities, incidents, and equipment usage
  • Develop and implement emergency response procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal fire safety regulations
  • Work one full weekend per month (in lieu of 2 days during a Monday through Friday week)

Fitness/ Wellness and Appearance

Station Manager shall:

  • Complete required annual fitness evaluations as assigned and work towards their fitness goals while on duty.
  • Complete annual medical evaluation within specified time frame, if so assigned.
  • Maintain assigned personal protective equipment in good order/repair.
  • Maintain a professional appearance in their daily uniform. Maintain uniforms and request replacements for items in poor condition.

  • Must be able to rely on senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch to help determine the nature of the emergency, maintain personal safety, and make critical decisions in a confused, chaotic and potentially life-threatening environment throughout the duration of the operation.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand, walk, run, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain emergency activities when noise may be loud, however precautions and equipment are provided to minimize exposure.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a certified firefighter
  • Proven leadership experience in a fire station
  • Knowledge of firefighting equipment and its maintenance
  • Familiarity with fire safety regulations and building codes
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations
  • Strong understanding of fire-fighting procedures, fire prevention methods, and emergency medical procedures
  • Excellent physical condition and stamina
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Completion of a degree or coursework in fire science, public administration, or a related field
  • Possess detailed working knowledge of articulation of Emergency services within Lowndes County, MS (preferred)
  • Led in a FEMA Incident Level 2 event (preferred)

Station Manager Experience Requirements

  • 10 + years of experience within Fire Service Operations
  • 5 + years of Fire Service Supervision/Leadership Positions

NFPA Certifications preferred:

  • Fire Service Instructor NFPA 1041 I-II
  • Fire Officer NFPA 1021 I-II
  • Fire Department Safety Officer NFPA 1521
  • Fire Department Inspector NFPA 1031

NOTE: This station will open as a private service business. Following on or about 1 year of operational service, actions will be pursued to make this a public service station within Lowndes County. If/when the station transitions to a public entity, employment within the station, and the associated compensation and benefits structure, are not guaranteed for continuance.
